Typographic Brand Identity for
Design Museum — ISTD Competition
The vision of the design museum is for everyone to understand the value of design. When you go to the museum to admire the designs and see the final products it seems like the designers managed to make some sort of miracle and it makes you
wonder how they made such a thing, or even how they put it together.
‘In every form design we create illusions to
trick our eyes one way or another.’
For my typography identity, I decided to use the geometrical illusions to show case the way
designers work, as well as, the impact the designs have to the audience.
I wanted to make a logo that can stand for itself as an exhibition piece inside the museum. You cannot have a temple dedicated to design with a bland identity… It has to stand out, it has to make an impact, to be innovative, to be different. One of the values of the design museum is that they are provocative and challenging, to look and think afresh about design – and I believe that my solution express exactly that.
Every colour choice was selected to express each aspect of design. For the main logo I used charcoal and graphite to symbolise the first tools a designer might use to start creating.
Industrial, brown for function and support
Fashion, orange for bold expression
Product, cool green for innovation and growth
Architecture, blue for structure and safety and lastly
Graphic, purple for sophisticated communication.
